figs in season

Food in season inspires me.
I visited my artist friend in the country who had a tree of figs just split from the rain. I came home with figs, basil in flower and micro zucchinis from the garden. This dish came together .... the fig was sliced and sprinkled with sea salt, its creamy sweetness loved the rich contrast of hot pungent mustard oil, the basil flower added pricks of herbaceous zeal and the zucchini gave texture, lemon zest balanced the dish.
And it was so simple ... smelt of the country ... and told the story of the season.
